I haven't heard or seen anything about him, Paula...I am watching this thread, though, in case someone does express interest here.

I'm going to venture a guess that that picture doesn't do him justice. You can see glimpses of a beautiful coat. Sometimes a dog won't work for one person but will work for another. Who knows. A smart companion dog might be just the right job for him. :)

Great points, Georgia. My William was a working-bred dog who was returned to his breeder for not being eager to work as often as the farmer needed him to. And he turned out to be a perfect companion for me and enriched my life enormously. :)

His Petfinder listing is still active, so I suspect he is still available. (I don't know how quickly this particular shelter updates those listings.) The best way to find out his status would be to contact the shelter directly: 615-452-2400 or tweatherford@sumnersheriff.com .

Please keep us posted on what you find out. :)

P.S. Welcome to the boards--I just now noticed your join date is today! :)

Thanks! I sent them an email. I hope he's still available. I'll drive the hour to get him. My fiance is in the army, and my best friend and roommate of three years just passed away. Definitely looking for something to love on. :]

I am very sorry for your loss. I hope it works out for you to adopt Cooter--he looks like he'd be a great friend and would appreciate having a wonderful friend in return. :)

I am going to pick him up on Saturday the 18th as long as everything goes according to plan of course. he is a 5 year old neutered male that does not have a strong herding instinct. his previous owner was a breeder that just surrenders tithe dogs when they wont work. I am very excited and hope this adoption works out. I will post links of pictures in the event that it does. :)

That's great news! Thanks for sharing the update, and thanks for adopting Cooter! :D I look forward to hearing more about him and seeing out-of-shelter photos!

FYI, the county where Cooter is located (Sumner) has a long and sad history of awful border collie breeders, so, unfortunately, it doesn't surprise me to hear a breeder there dumps dogs at shelters if they don't work. :x If you ever want to read up on one of the main players, just Google Richard Swafford sometime.

Yes, it was an awful situation for many years, and it would not surprise me if other breeders in that area are carrying on the tradition, unfortunately.

I am so glad that you have decided to adopt Cooter, though, and I'll bet he flourishes in your care. :)
