Young M Black BC/Freckled Feets! OKC, OK *Adopted*

When I see listings like this one on Petfinder, it makes me sad.

This poor boy is mostly black, photographed looking out of his cage and its hard to see much of anything about him. Not much hope that he will attract any attention with this PF ad or in the shelter -- it is the curse of the black dog. So few of them ever make it out alive. He doesn't have a name, just A097906 ...BUT I can kind of see his front paws in the photo through the bars - and he does have freckled feets!!

Her is a new PF link for Riley...thank goodness he has a new photo and a name now, he sounds like a wonderful boy from the write up - and only about a year old.

I can't do anything for him other than get the word out but I am going to call the shelter. I THINK this shelter has an adoptable side and if they do and he made it over there (thus the new pic and link) he may be safe...although looks like he still needs rescue - his paws look beat up maybe (and the forlorn look in his eyes ).

Wonderful! Thanks for offering to take some video, and also to Karen for networking him.

There is some definite longing in his eyes, and I love that he wants a belly rub from the shelter workers (they described that in his write-up!)

They state that there are five rooms full of dogs at this OKC shelter, and close to 300 dogs are listed on PF. Wow.

They were closed yesterday, so I will head over there today. They all always very full, so sad. We just pulled one from there last week.

The pictures do not do this guy justice! He is a big happy go lucky puppy! Really great dog, sweet, playful, dog friendly, people friendly.
He is a nice dog! He is on the adoption side. The OKC shelter will hold dogs that make it to the adoption side for 2 weeks, after the 2 weeks is up they can be pulled by rescue. I am not sure how long he has been there. His initial review date was 10/31/11, but I have been to the shelter several times in the last month and have never seen him. I will call the transfer coordinator on Monday and see when the 2 weeks is up. I only got this one picture, he is quite wiggly and my camera doesn't take the best indoor pictures. But, here is a video:

Oh, I just love him. He is like a much smaller version of my pup Gunner (personality wise). He looks like a great dog. Beautiful too! Thanks for the video!

What a fun and handsome boy Riley is!! He looks like a love bug too, cuddling up for some hugs there. Thanks SO much for taking the video of him!

Hopefully, someone will fall for his adorable ways and give him to a great forever home. Rescue will be an option for him after a couple of weeks, it seems.

Update:
His health check was done on 11/9/11 which is when they start the 2 weeks, so he can be pulled by rescue at any time. She said that since he is on the adoption side he is safe, they euthanize incoming dogs first. She said the only way he would be in danger is if he comes down with kennel cough. He is Ehrlichia + I let her know to contact me if something comes up and I will continue to check on him.
