Nutram

My Dad and I are looking into some higher quality foods for my three, and tonight my grandpa was talking about a new food he put his Husky x on because she has constant yeast infections in her ears, and their groomer recommended this food Nutram.

I went on their site, and decided if I try it, I would either use the Chicken & Rice:

Chicken meal, ground rice, select whole grain corn, chicken fat (preserved with Vitamin E), dried beet pulp, flaxseed, chicken, chicken digest, dicalcium phosphate, potassium chloride, salt, lecithin, dried whole egg, choline chloride, Vitamin C, chicory root extract (a source of FOS), dried cheese, yucca schidigera, glucosamine, chondroitin, marigold extract (a source of Lutein), Vitamin A, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, Vitamin K (menadione), Vitamin B12, riboflavin, niacin, d-calcium pantothenate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, thiamine mononitrate, folic acid, biotin, ferrous sulphate, iron proteinate, manganous oxide, manganese proteinate, zinc sulphate, zinc proteinate, copper sulphate, copper proteinate, calcium iodate, beta carotene, cobalt proteinate, sodium selenite.

OR

Weight Control:

Chicken meal, ground rice, select whole grain corn, corn gluten meal, dried beet pulp, chicken, flaxseed, chicken fat (preserved with Vitamin E), pea fiber, chicken digest, herring meal, dicalcium phosphate, salt, potassium chloride, lecithin, dried whole egg, choline chloride, Vitamin C, chicory root extract (a source of FOS), dried cheese, yucca schidigera, L-carnitine, marigold extract (a source of Lutein), glucosamine, chondroitin, Vitamin A, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, Vitamin K (menadione), Vitamin B12, riboflavin, niacin, d-calcium pantothenate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, thiamine mononitrate, folic acid, biotin, ferrous sulphate, iron proteinate, manganous oxide, manganese proteinate, zinc sulphate, zinc proteinate, copper sulphate, copper proteinate, calcium iodate, beta carotene, cobalt proteinate, sodium selenite.

It says on their site and on the bags of food that all of their meat is high quality, human grade.

How does this food look to you guys?

I don't like the fact that corn is high on the ingredient list in both. Corn is very difficult for dogs to digest.

Yep. Rice, corn, and corn gluten meal (on the weight control) aren't the best way to really lead an ingredient list. I'd bet that you can find something better at the same price level, though I know searching through dog food brands is just SUCH a joy! :P I'm still playing that game with Kodah's food trying to find the one that works best for him.

A little off topic but My poor lab suffered for years with bad yeast infections. I had to clean out his ears every other day. It got so bad he developed an inner ear imbalance issue. The the vets all kept pushing otomax and swimmers ear ointments- and kept suggesting changing his food to this lamb & rice product or another. It was actually a non-vet who finally said to me- "bandit needs an good topical anti-fungal"
I took bandit back one of the vets and actually had to be a little aggressive about getting the vet to proscribe him the ointment and again he tried to push the oxomax-
We used Zymox three point enzine system otic hc enzymatic solution- other lab owner i know swear by T-8 Keto dog meds-
The ear Yeast was still a chronic issue but it did clear the yeast and the reduced the need for repeat treatment and ear washings to monthly or bi monthly. My dog was so much happier & he got in better shape.
