Hello All!
Well, as I speak, Tricia, Doug and Dazzle are heading home! I told Tricia that I would send a quick note to all of you and let you know what happened as best I can. She can fill you in on more details once she’s home.
The last time I wrote, the plan was that they were going to inject dye into Dazzle’s gall bladder to see if there was a leak – and find out where it was. When they did the mri or whatever it is that scans, they found that the gall bladder had shifted behind the liver. They would have had to go thru the liver to get to the gall bladder and they did not want to do that. What they also found was that there were 6 ‘pockets’ of fluid. They took samples of all 6 and found that 5 of the 6 pockets had ‘old’ fluid – which would be the kind of fluid that the body eventually absorbs on it’s own. The 6th pocket had some fresh bile fluid in it. So yesterday they took another sample – and this morning were going to see if it too turned ‘old’ – or was fresh. If old, they felt Dazzle would heal on her own and no further surgery would be necessary. If it showed ‘new’ fluid – that meant there was a leak – and more surgery would be necessary.
The good news is – the 6th pocket had ‘old’ fluid today!! Yeah!!! So they are heading home with new antibiotics. When Dazzle came home yesterday she had all bandages off – and was full of the dickens! Very engaged with our dogs – wanting to play – and not happy that she had to constantly be on the leash! Needless to say – Tricia and Doug are very relieved.
I’m afraid my report isn’t very clinical, but it gives you and idea of the good news. And Tricia will be able to fill you in on more. I just told her I would send you a note because I’m sure it will be late when they arrive – and they have a lot of catching up to do after being gone from work for 3 days.
We had so much fun having them here! And I’m honored to deliver the good news!!!
Donna
