Can someone please explain to me how these often discussed 'NorthEast Transports' work. I ask because San Antonio ACSD has a dog listed on PF. I called the shelter to check status and was told that the dog was not available for adoption or rescue because it was already slated for a NE transport to New Hampshire. I was slightly stunned that that they did such a thing all the way from San Antonio but 'ok'. However, they said the dog wasn't going to be transported until sometime in mid-July.
So now it's not making any sense to me. WHy would you have that dog (and the others) taking up space in a kill shelter for over a month to be transferred to New Hampshire and not only that but make it not locally available in the interim?
Is there a specific number of dogs they have to have but even if there is...couldn't that one dog be locally adopted and replaced with someone else who comes in later? What am I missing?
Someone please educate me.
