Senior b/w Female BC at Collin County AC TX

New postby patlvo on Sun May 30, 2010 6:53 pm

There is a female senior bc at Collin County Animal Services who could use a home. I have posted the information below. Please contact the CCAS for more information. She seems like a doll. It would be really nice if she could find a home. Thank you.

This girl is definately a senior. She may be partially blind. I am thinking she may be distemper survivor b/c of teeth and her head twitches. She shows no signs of illness.
Most importantly, she is oh so sweet and just adores your attention. She was so happy to see me, and smiled at me the entire time I spent w/ her.
Please can someone save her, I may be able to negotiate an early release due to shelter being so crowded.

Thanks for posting this sweet lady. It breaks my heart to think of her spending her golden days at a shelter. It sounds like Lisa really cares about her and would love to help get her out of there.

It looks like this shelter is North of Dallas and does not do adoptions. After 5 days of hold, dogs are either evaluated and go to SPCA if adoptable, or do not go if not :(

She arrived 5/28... so she would have until Wednesday I think.

Is this right Lisa?

Is there anyway to get a vet to evaluate her for health and age? She looks like a very sweet and loving dog that deserves to enjoy her last few years resting in someone's den...

Hi, Karoline, you would need to email Lisa directly at the email listed. My name is Pat. I did found out there is no vet on staff and she could not be preevaluated though.
Thank you.

I will help with transport, funds if somebody can find a place for her. The seniors in prison always make me sad.

Bump. I too would contribute to help this girl have some peaceful days.

Has anyone spoken to the shelter about her age, and general condition or about getting a photo of her standing?

She really needs to be helped!

If a Rescue can't take her, what about a Sanctuary? I know it is not the perfect solution, but much better than being euthanized. This girl really needs help.
I don't know if there are any Animal Sanctuaries close to her? It is just sooooo sad!

I was able to speak via email and voicemail with both Lisa and Lorie from the shelter over the last couple of days. They LOVE this dog. Lisa says she's angelic and just the sweetest, most loving soul. As of yesterday she was feeling a bit better, but she doesn't walk around much. I asked if she'd do ok in a household with other dogs and Lisa thinks she'd do just fine-she'd likely just keep to herself and lounge around. I had to go through the shelter's answering service a couple of times yesterday and I had occasion to listen to various messages and discovered, unfortunately, that this animal control does not do public adoptions. The only way a dog can get out is to be deemed "adoptable" and transferred to the local SPCA. I don't know if an old dog that can only lay around can be considered "adoptable", even though I personally think she's absolutely perfect and would love to have her lay around my house and yard, but perhaps not everyone will see things that way. With that said, I think that Lisa and Lorie absolutely think she's worth placing. It was heartwarming to hear Lisa describe the old gal in such a sweet way so perhaps they'd be willing to hang onto her a wee bit longer till a safe place can be found for old gal to lay her head one last time...

Does anyone have time to call this sanctuary today?

Prianka (Near Houston, TX)
Pure Mutts Animal Sanctuary

I hear she takes in hard cases and has a wonderful place for dogs. I'd be happy to contribute to a dowry for her...? Prianka is well thought of and has a great piece of land a house for her dogs. All dogs live in the house.

OR can someone ask one of the volunteers listed if they could take her to the vet for assessment etc? I am willing to call with my credit card.

Crazy day at work.

I just emailed Lisa at the shelter to get an update on this lovely old lady. I'll post an update once I hear back from her.

Email response from Lorie who works at the shelter:

Karen she is doing ok, but doesn’t have a lot of time left here I am afraid…just depends on how full we get with the weekend. So let any of the rescues you talk to know that. Lisa is off today and tomorrow but will be back here Mon-Fri next week because I am off on vacation.

Is the shelter open tomorrow? Open Monday?

Can you have contact with them after 5:00 today in case someone steps up...

So the idea of reaching out to a sanctuary turned out to be a brilliant one. I contacted the shelter to buy old girl some time then I called the lady that Karoline mentioned in an earlier post. We need to get some transport together to get this sweet old girl from animal control in McKinney TX to the Houston area where the sanctuary is located. Prianka is a sweet, soft-spoken lady who kindly offered her home as old girl's final resting stop. We need to get some donations together to help defray Prianka's costs-she didn't ask, but I offered so hopefully we can help old girl get where she needs to be so she can enjoy life again and rest in a cozy house, not a barren shelter floor.
Here's the email I received from Lorie at the shelter regarding their hours:

We are OPEN till 6 pm Weekdays and 10-2pm on Saturday’s….but there is generally someone here between 8-5pm even on the weekends when we are closed to the public and we can make arrangements for any day for anything between those time frames.
