Malcolm--blue/white M--Bowling Green, KY--rescued by FOP!

In trolling Petfinder tonight, I saw this guy at my local shelter! Looks like he must be a stray since he's not available until 2/27.

I tried to convince DH we needed a fourth dog--after all, we already have a pair of black/white split-faces (with white on the right side, even), so I think Malcolm would fit in nicely. :D However he seems unpersuaded, so I thought I'd post him here in case anyone else is interested. Of course, I am available as a local contact and to evaluate him. :)

Wowza! Bowling Green sure does get some gorgeous dogs! Thanks for posting him Angie. I agree that he would fit in nicely with your pack. Maybe DH wouldn't notice if you seek him in quietly! :D

I like the way you think, Kristy! After all, DH only has limited vision...maybe I should try him out and see if he can distinguish black from grey, in fact. :P

Okay, so I sort-of made up an excuse to go to the shelter today (found some of our dogs' stuff we weren't using and decided to donate it) mostly so I could meet Malcolm!

I have an email in to Deana asking if she expects him to be covered when his stray hold expires tomorrow, but she has had a very hectic week with a big transport leaving last night. So I'm not surprised that I haven't heard back from her. I would think she'd be beating adopters and rescuers off with a stick, though, so I didn't do a full eval.

However, I can report that Malcolm, while a little slow to warm up, is a very sweet guy. He went from not wanting me to touch him (first ~10 min. I was in his run) to crawling into my lap and licking my face in about 2 minutes. :) He's now kenneled with a coffeetable of a yellow lab, and they seem to get along fine. The lab is very people-focused and was in my face right from the start, which might also explain some of Malcolm's hesitation.

I didn't notice any health issues of concern, although once Malcolm decided he liked me, he was very wiggly and not particularly easy to check out. :D Teeth look clean at a quick glance, and he let me handle his front paws without problems. I tugged on ears and petted firmly all over his torso and head. His coat is very thick, and he has some mats, but nothing unusual. He also has quite a bit of white on his sides, making him even more attention-grabbing in person.

I would have made an excuse to go see this boy too Angie. He is so handsome! And it sounds like he has a sparkling personality to go with his good looks! I bet there are folks lined up to help this boy but I am glad you are keeping an eye on him!

I called on Friday to ask if there had been any interest in Malcom yet by rescues or potential adopters and was told no :( Hopefully that's because his stray hold wasn't up yet...(People can still submit apps though in the interim).

Wow, that surprises me that nobody has indicated interest in Malcolm yet. Given that news, I'll add a few of my photos--sorry they are not very good, but they at least show how he looks from each side.

Hi, Melissa,

I didn't take any toys with me, so I'm not sure how responsive he would be to them. I noticed there were a couple of balls in the run but neither dog was interacting with them--they were both more interested in people (both me and the folks walking around since Saturdays are busy days for foot traffic at the shelter).

It's possible I could get back to the shelter on Wednesday to take Malcolm out of his run and do a fuller eval, including with toys, if you're interested. FYI, I have heard from one other rescue that is interested but haven't gotten confirmation that things are in place yet. I'll keep watching this thread for any more info folks care to share.

I heard tonight that Phoenix Rising BCR is taking Malcolm and has arranged with Deana for him to be vetted this week so that he can leave (with luck) on a PNP transport soon. :)

Received confirmation from Mary of PRBCR last night that the rescue is arranging transportation and expects Malcolm to move to the rescue next week sometime.

He's now showing Adopted - so either transport got lined up, or he's...adopted, lol. (Haven't seen him crop on on PRBCR.)

Thanks, Molly--I noticed the PF change, too, but am not sure what it indicates. I noticed that my Malcolm photos appeared on a PRBCR person's Facebook profile on Feb. 28, with instructions to complete an application at the rescue's website. But I just checked the PRBCR site itself and also didn't see him there yet.

Either way, I'm glad he's out of the shelter. :) I guess I'll update the thread title somehow so that it can be moved out of this area.
