Chester is thought to be around a year old. He was picked up on Joy Road near Sharpsburg.
From Lynn, Volunteer, Friends of the Shelter Dog:
Here is a brief summary of my observations of him at the shelter:
When I approached his kennel and put my hand against the kennel door, he smelled and licked my hand. When I knelt down eye-to-eye with him, he still licked my hand and wagged his tail. He was difficult to get out of his kennel when I tried to put a slip lead over his head. He would back away on each attempt and come back forward when I put the leash down. The dog warden entered his kennel, held/pet him, and slipped the lead over his head. At that point, he was difficult to coax to walk thru the corridor to the back door out to the play yard--but he did walk. Once in the play yard, he was a different dog--happy and excited. He was very eager to play with the smaller male dog in the adjacent play yard and initiated play thru the chain link fence. He was allowed to be nose to nose with the other dog while each was on lead and they tried to play wrestle with each other. When the other dog was removed from his sight, he was attentive to me. I was able to pet him, pretend to check his teeth, tug gently on his fur and ears, and handle a front and back paw while leaning over his back. He was hesitant about going thru the gate to exit the play yard, but was curious and followed me. Once we walked around the grounds, he quickly appeared relaxed and was very easy to lead on leash and attentive to me. He even "jumped on" me for attention. He seems young in mannerisms and has nice, white teeth. I would say maybe a year old.
