Anyone feeds Orijen Adult or Senior? How do you like this product?

Good food, but very rich. I found none of my fosters did well on it.

Hi Jessica,

Is it not ok for seniors? They have been on a diet consists of 22-24% proteins and I want to bump it up a bit. Maybe some will do well on Orijen and some don't.

I've never had a senior on it. It's worth a shot though, as it really is a good food. I just found it way too rich for the puppies.

I haven't tried it with my guys, but I know others who have, and I've heard nothing but good things about Orijen. If that helps any, Victoria.

Thanks Jessica and Paula!

I bought the adult and senior dry food this past weekend. My dogs got so excited when they smelled the bags (not sure if they smelled the food or the 60 plus dogs at the dog daycare center where I purchased the food) :D

I have started adding this new food very slowly since it's so rich. So far they seem to enjoy eating it. This brand is pricy but I think it's worth it.

My friend feeds it to her "always starving, someone please just feed me" Golden and he no longer acts hungry on it! He is doing really well too. I would recommend it. :)

Thanks for your comments ladies.

I have been feeding my babies Orijen adult and senior for over a week now. So far so good. They seem to really enjoy it. Their poop has become a lot firmer, smaller and less smelly  Looks like they have more energy also. I am very happy that I switched to this brand.

For those of you who though Orijen was too rich, try their other brand, Acanna. It is the same receipe as Orijens but less protein and more veggies. I had all of my dogs on Orijens, but my youngest could not tolerate the high protein.

I switch them all to Acanna and i haven't noticed a difference. One nice thing about the Acanna is they have a lamb food with no grains, Grasslands which they dont offer in Orijens. All my dogs love the fish food!

Found Origin too rich and made the poo really smell. I stepped down to Acana Sport made by the same people as Origin and I have found it to be a really good food and economical too eccpecialy with 5 active mouths to feed! It keeps them in nice coat and keeps them toned too. I do add in yogurt! I find it helpful to add in pumpkin when changing foods too! ;)

Four of my five eat EVO, but Kodah SEEMS to have a sensitivity to beef or chicken, just going by how itchy he was on those foods. He did much better on Wellness CORE Ocean, but I recently switched him over to the Orijen 6 Fish because it's a little cheaper. He's holding his weight better, which isn't surprising since Orijen has a higher protein content. Kodah hasn't had any digestive problems - gas or diarrhea - and his poop is the same as ever. The ONLY difference is that the 6 Fish does smell fishier than the CORE Ocean, but I've gotten used to that.

P.S. Also for thoses that have dogs that don't do well on chicken and beef etc. I find that BC's tend to do really well on lamb! I just could not find a food with the high protein I want with a lamb meat source. Funny as lamb is harder to digest!

Acana Provincial Grasslands – lamb, walleye, northern pike; grain-free; 33% protein/17% fat

That's the only higher protein food I've found that is based in lamb and DOESN'T have chicken or beef (and I've looked at A LOT - I have a nice long list). Lamb and fish - not a bad combo. It DOES have chicken eggs though. Some dogs with chicken allergies are fine with eggs, while others still have trouble.

Zoey and Fenn both eat the Acana grain free. Zoey is eating Pacificia (only fish) and Fenn is eating the Grasslands (Lamb and Fish). Both seem to be doing pretty good on it. I have to drive to the end of the earth to get it, but so far it has been worth it.

Fenn had terrible issues on EVO and ended up with Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth that had to be treated with 6 weeks of Tylan. Our vet suggested the higher fat and protein content triggered the response. He went from TOTW to EVO. Now on the Acana his tummy his MUCH happier.

My dogs have been on Acana Prairie Harvest since the month it was released. I previously had them on EVO but found that Emmett just could not keep any weight on. Chloe also had problems with keeping weight on as well and tired quickly. Since I changed to Prairie Harvest I have seen Shelby's coat turn nice and thick and she doesn't blow it out as much (stupid lab coats!!), Emmett is finally at a good weight and the balance of ingredients suits Chloe very well as a senior. All three are very active and they love the food. The main reason I switched was because it was a grain free product with what I felt was a really good balance of protein, carbs, fat, etc

Also, since this is important to me, Acana is from Champion Pet Foods which is an Alberta company. I try to buy locally as much as possible to support our local farmers and industry and I'm pleased to be able to extend this commitment to my dogs as well.
