Alright you have all probably heard this before but my 2 year old female BC is horrible when it comes to other people. Its not like she attacks them completely just acts mean with a loud mean bark and bites at their ankles. She's the worst when we are at home and any visitors come over but she does it on walks or on hikes as well. She is also horrible with children and I know that is just a BC thing but it's tough to take her to the dog park when there are children there. She goes straight for them and I have to warn all the parents in the park that their kids should not go near my dog. Is there any kind of training I can put her through to try and fix these problems? Any success stories?
Oh how I can relate! I almost had one of my dogs put down because she was so aggressive towards other people and dogs. I found myself a good trainer, did a lot of research, got her involved in agility and did a huge amount of work. Long story short, she is still with me. She is still a bit nervous around dogs and people she doesn't know but not aggressive. I no longer fear (and haven't for years now) that she will attack someone. There is hope for your dog as long as you are willing to commit to doing the work it takes and recognize that it will also take time.
Well she is great with other dogs, I take her to the dog park almost every day. It is just other people sometimes, at the dog park she loves everybody but at home, on walks or trails she just growls and nips at their feet or legs. Its kind of selective with people as well. She also hates any person moving faster than they should be to include: bicycles, scooters, and skateboards. I go to college up in Flagstaff, AZ and take her on campus a lot to walk around and I have to hold her close whenever a bike or skateboarder rides by. Like I said before it is select people that she growls at especially children and short people and I try to get her around a lot of people to try and cure this. It is not like I have kept her away I tried to get her experienced with every environment but she still has some issues. I even worked at Petsmart when she was a puppy and got her into the classes. I think I may try out the whole agility thing see if she likes that.
