I hope you don't mind me posting here, but I am requesting that US rescuers also send an email to our Prime Minister. Tell them what you are dealing with on a daily basis because of laws like the one they are about to pass here!!!
Permission to cross post.

Dear WHS Supporter and Concerned Citizen,
We are asking your help in stopping Bill S-203, a completely inadequate revision to the Criminal Code related to Cruelty to Animals.
Why is it inadequate? Because it does not protect stray animals - if an "unowned animal" is horribly abused, the perpetrator cannot be prosecuted under the Criminal Code because the animal is no one's property.
As well, if Michael Vick's case had happened in Canada he would not have been prosecuted because it is not illegal to breed and train animals to fight . Nor is it illegal to make money from animal fighting. Surely animals deserve better protection than that!
Please help us to protect animals by contacting Prime Minister Harper's office and telling his government that this legislation is not good enough.A simple message telling him to stop Bill S-203 will go a long way to letting him know that many Canadians care about this issue. Here is what I sent. Just sample that everyone else can send too. Please address the PM in a respectful manner. It doesn't do any good to be rude and abusive.
Sal
Honourable Prime Minister Stephen Harper;
In regard to Bill S-203, those of us whose whole lives revolve around the rescue and rehoming of abandoned and abused animals implore you, please give us laws with teeth. The laws in our country regarding the safety and well being of animals are at best vague, and at worst, meaningless. They do nothing to protect those poor innocent creatures who cannot give voice to their suffering and their pain. Only we can do that.
I implore you, Sir, to set an example for your own children, and the children of all Canadians, set a higher standard, and do not pass a law that will make the horrors of Michael Vick's abuse legal in a country we call civilized.
Sincerely
Sally Hull
