Pookie My Heart Dog

New postby pookie_karmalina on Mon Apr 05, 2010 12:27 pm

Hey Guys,

As some of you know, I did have to put Pookie down over the Easter weekend. It was really hard… I rescued Pookie on August 16th, 1995 (my high school graduation gift). I was a mere babe in the woods myself, but happily, we had a great life together. She was there for some pretty major moments in my life, including my Mum’s passing, my Wedding day, and the birth of my baby girl!! We won’t talk about the 6 months I left her with my dad while I lived in the UK, or the time I brought home “the other dog”… forcing her to share the love with another rescue dog…

Even if you never met her, you can even tell in the photos what a gentle and kind soul she was.

Being the sentimental fool that I am, I made a tribute video for Pookie to commemorate our life together. If you have a minute (or 3:47 to be exact)… and want to read my silly poem and look at some photos of my girl, please take a look.

All the best,
Julie

Such a beautiful tribute to a beautiful life. No matter how long we have them, it is never long enough. But what a journey you all shared. Thanks for letting us have a glimpse into the joy and happiness you shared. And thanks for giving Pookie such a full life and a peaceful and dignified parting.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Ode To A Heart Dog

New postby BustopherJones on Mon Apr 05, 2010 2:15 pm

So this is where we part, my friend,
And you'll run on, around the bend,
Gone from sight, but not from mind,
New pleasures there you'll surely find.

I will go on. I'll find the strength.
Life measures quality, not its length.
One long embrace before you leave,
Share one last look, before I grieve.

There were others, that much is true,
But they be they, and they aren't you.
And I, fair, impartial, or so I thought,
Will remember well all you've taught.

Your place I'll hold, you will be missed,
The fur I stroked, the nose I kissed.
And as you journey to your final rest,
Take this with you....I loved you best.

PS. The tribute is beyond words...I knew I shouldn't watch it before work, now I'm sobbing. What a beautiful soul she is.

Awe, Julie, I'm so sorry for the loss of your sweet Pookie. I can't watch the video right now, since I'm at work. But, I guess that's just as well because I'm sure it'll bring a few tears to my eyes. I'm with Paula, Pookie was one of my board favorites. Godspeed, sweet Pookie.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have just watched the video you made and am sitting here with a smile on my lips and a tear in my eye. Pookie left this world having been given a second chance. She was loved, she loved, and she lived a wonderful life and passed wrapped in that love and the memories of her life. What more could you ask? Would that every dog could have the gift you gave Pookie.

Julie, I know I shouldn't have watched the tribute either- I'm sobbing now. Pookie was a beautiful dog and lived a long and full life- lucky to have you for a best friend. May your heart heal quickly and may you find it in yourself to only remember the best days. You and Pookie are in my thoughts.
