Thea is a purebred border collie that was rescued from a border collie Puppy Mill in September 2009 where she was kept in deplorable conditions. After a round-about trip to Florida she had her first bath in probably years. Her fur was so matted that she had to have her bum and tail shaved. She landed on our doorstep in October.
When Thea first arrived she would hide in her crate, coming out only when coaxed with food or being physically pulled out. She was scared of everything: people, dogs, doorways, furniture, hard flooring and especially loud sounds and sudden movements. She would not walk on tile or wood floors, only carpet and grass. The leash was her enemy and she would bite it and lie down when a leash was clipped on to her.
With 6 foster siblings Thea quickly came out of her shell. She loves to run with the “pack” and will need room to run, perhaps a canine sibling or two. She doesn’t quite understand toys but she loves chew bones. She has learned to walk through doorways, walk on solid flooring and has even conquered the doggie door. She has trouble with steps, finding it easier to go up and difficult to come down. She’s also learned to walk on a leash. She will not be happy in a home with any cats, she is obsessed with them. Thea likes clicker training and has learned to sit on command. She is very food motivated and can be coaxed in uncomfortable situations with treats.
Thea likes routine. She has learned what it means when we say, “time to go outside” and “in your crate”. She will be happiest in a home where there is a definite routine. She likes women more than men but has bonded with her foster dad. She’ll just take some time and patience.
Thea is about 4-5 years old. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and heartworm preventative, and is microchipped.
