Brownie, 1994-2009, R.I.P.
This is my first post. It’s dedicated to Brownie Dagmar, our family dog for 15 years. We had to put her down Aug. 29 of last year to stop her suffering from cancer.
She grew up with our four kids, who were then aged 5, 7, 9, and 11.
For 15 years, Brownie gave us unconditional love, fierce protection of the family and the property, and unlimited kisses. She would smile at us when we got home!
There is nothing in the world like a good dog. We were blessed.
Yes, it still hurts.
We now have Bonnie, who will be 7 months old Thursday, and she has won our hearts. She is canned energy, and very happy and affectionate.
Three out of four of my kids went with us to pick out the puppy. We almost recreated the 1994 scenario.
Thanks for a very nice message board!

Hi, Vic, and welcome to the boards, although I'm sorry we are "meeting" on a sad topic. Brownie was a beautiful girl, and it sounds like she had a full and happy life with your family. You were all lucky to have fifteen years together, but I know it's never enough time. I am glad you have added Bonnie to your family and that she is being such a charmer. :)

Brownie was beautiful! And it sounds like she was a perfect fit in your family. Like Angie said, no matter how long we have them, it is never enough. We will always wish we had just one more day with them. But the memories you have of your special girl are priceless. Thanks for sharing such a nice tribute. I am very sorry for your loss.

High up in the courts of Heaven today
A little dog-angel waits.
With the other dogs she will not play,
She just sits alone at the Gates.

”For I know my Mistress will come”, says she,
”And when she comes, she will call for me.”

She sees the spirits that pass her by
As they hasten towards the throne,
And she watches them with a wistful eye
As she sits at the gate alone;

"But I know if I just wait patiently
That someday my Mistress will come," says she.

And her Mistress far down on the earth below,
As she sits in her easy chair
Forgets sometimes, and she whistles low
For the dog that is not there;

And the little dog-angel cocks her ears
And dreams that her Mistress' call she hears.

And I know when at length her Mistress waits
Outside in the dark and cold
For the hand of Death to open the gates
That lead to the Courts of Gold,

The little dog-angel's eager bark
Will comfort her soul while she's still in the dark.

~ Adapted from a poem by Norah M. Holland, 1870

When the time comes, Brownie will be waiting to guide you home.
Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow." (Mary Anne Radmacher)

Brownie was so sweet. I'm glad you've got Bonnie to brighten your days now, though.
