I realize that head shot was not very informative...sorry! She is 43 lbs, 20" high at the withers and 22"in length, from everything I've researched about BCs, that's within their body type. 2 local vets in the area have seen her, and they say she's a BC or perhaps a slight mix, I dont know... :| I've been thinking about her getting DNA tested, but I really cant afford it. What do you all think I should do? Sorry bout the glowy eyes!!

Your dog is nearly identical in size to mine! Lots of shared features, too. I wouldn't bother with a DNA test anyway. I learned the hard way by trying one out and it said my dog was equal parts German Shepherd, Chow, and Cocker Spaniel. Not only is it visually unbelievable, that breakdown is basically impossible. Save the money, call your dog a (beautiful) Border Collie mix, and be proud of how unique she is! :D

Thank you! :D Relena was a shelter rescue, she was the only fawn pup from a litter of black and whites! They had labeled them all "Mixed Breed," which basically means dont know... Do BCs have funny quirks, like being scared of thunder, fireworks, guns, and linoleum? Its the funniest thing watching her do her little routine to try to get across the kitchen floor!!

BC's Quirky? HA! I have one that jumps into the bathtub every time it thunders, and my pedigreed BC girl slipped ONCE on the linoleum in the kitchen and will not go in there since (years ago). She is also afraid of tile floors, and like your dog has a strange "routine" for getting across it -- even though I have several runner rugs down across the dining room for her!

I think all dogs definitely have their strange quirks. My (assumed) Border Collie is actually quite the brave one. He really likes hard floors and is very comfortable on them. He can usually be found napping on one. He likes to walk into the bathroom and sniff the bathtub for some reason. Whenever we're getting ready to go on a walk, he gets really excited and always runs into the bathroom before coming to the front door! There are plenty of things that get him worked up, though...like skateboards, people on bikes, large trucks or noisy cars.

My other dog, who is most likely not a BC mix sounds a lot like you've both described. She's horrified of hard floors. Our hallway leading to the front door is laminate and before we go for walks, she'll usually pause at the end, stare at the floor, then run like the wind to get to the nearest rug! She has had several spills because she refuses to just walk, and I know it has definitely stuck with her memory...but you gotta do what you gotta do to get outside! She's just overall one of the craziest and quirkiest dogs I've ever seen.

Here's a picture of them (Xero on the left and Zoey on the right):

WOW, what beautiful dogs you have!! They do bear some resemblance. Relena will NOT go into the bathroom, she slipped on the floor as a pup and hasn't forgotten it! :) The only times she has walked on the kitchen floor is when thunderstorms are around, you can't get her to leave your side. Come to think of it, she doesn't leave my side hardly at all, 'cept when I'm in the kitchen. :D This is just amazing to talk to wonderful people who have dogs like mine, though she considers herself a person a lot of the time!

This is my BFF Jill. I've never known what breed she is since I rescued her from animal control in 2000. She is the sweetest dog I've ever known. She turns 12 in September and still runs with me every day for at least 3.5 miles. I've seen a few dogs here that look just like her. Jill is 20 pounds. She jumps at any loud noise and is a nervous nelly, but she takes on the roll of alpha with all dogs she plays with. She lived with a husky puppy for awhile and she was the boss of the husky even when husky was full size. She is the best. Stares into your eyes for a long time. Full of love. I hate that we're getting to the last years.

Awww...Jill both looks and sounds like a special girl! I'm glad you found each other!

And I know what you mean about the senior years being bittersweet. I'm glad Jill is still so healthy and active, and I hope you have many more years together.
