Please see the following posts describing three methods for adding photos to your post:

(1) Linking to the source of the photo
(2) Uploading a photo attachment
(3) Using a remote host for your photo

Anyone who has good tips or advice is free to contribute.

1. Linking to the source of the photo

New postby MollyATL on Fri Nov 05, 2010 11:52 pm

Method: Use the [IMG] code to insert a picture hosted by the listing site (such as Petfinder)

Pros:

--You do not need to download the picture to your computer.
--You do not need to upload the picture to a picture hosting site.
--You do not need to worry about resizing the picture.

Cons:

--You need to properly identify the URL for the picture.
--If the picture is removed (for example, the PF listing is deleted), the picture will disappear from the post.

Instructions:

***Do not copy the URL from the toolbar. That URL is for the page, not for the picture.***

a. Choose the online picture you would like to include in the listing.

b. Right-click on the picture.

c. Select “Properties.”

d. Copy the address (URL) displayed.

e. In your post, insert the image tags [IMG].

f. Paste your URL between the image tags.

***Although you do not need to resize the pictures using this method, be aware that an overly large photo may be cut off by certain browsers. Choose a reasonably sized picture whenever possible.***

2. Uploading a Photo Attachment

New postby MollyATL on Sat Nov 06, 2010 12:01 am

Method: Use the Upload Attachment feature offered by the forum.

Pros:

--The picture will always be displayed with the post.
--You can display pictures that do not appear elsewhere online.

Cons:

--You must first download the picture to your computer.
--You need to properly size the picture.
--You are limited to three (3) pictures per post.

Instructions:

*** Picture file size must not exceed 1MB.***

a. Choose the online picture you would like to include in the listing (if applicable).
Tip: when using a picture from Petfinder, copy the picture from the dog's display page, not the enlarged photo. Due to Petfinder size restrictions, the picture on the display page will meet this forum's requirements and also not require scrolling on most browsers.

b. Save the picture to your computer.

c. If the picture is greater than 1MB or a large pixel size, use imaging software to resize the picture.

d. When posting, select the Upload Attachment tab below the data window.

e. Browse your computer to find and select the picture.

f. Select “add the file” to upload. Wait for the file to upload.

g. In the data window, place your cursor where you want the picture to appear.

h. Below the uploaded file name, choose “Place inline.”

***Preview your post to ensure the picture is displaying properly. If scroll bars appear, you may want to reduce the picture size. You will need to delete the picture and upload the new, smaller picture following the instructions above.***

3. Using a Remote Host for Your Photo

New postby MollyATL on Sat Nov 06, 2010 12:09 am

Method: Use a remote hosting site (such as Photobucket)

Pros:

--The picture will always be displayed with the post.
--You can link to an unlimited number of pictures in a single post.

Cons:

--You must subscribe to a picture hosting site.
--You must upload photos to the hosting site.
--You must know how to get the image URL for your pictures.
--If you delete the picture from your hosting site (or it expires), it will no longer display in the post.

Instructions:

The following helpful guide - with screen captures - was originally contributed by user PlasM:

First of all you will want to sign up to a photo hosting site, the one I'm going to use in this example is photobucket: http://www.photobucket.com

This is a free service and you can store lots and looooooots of images here.

Step One:

Right the first thing we're going to do is sign up, I think you all know how to do that if you've managed to sign up to this forum.

Now I'm going to assume the photos you want to upload are already on your computer. We need to find those now!

Step Two

Click this nice big button:

Image

Step Three

Select from this window, the photos you want you upload, (hold the ctrl key on your keyboard and click each image to select multiple photos.)

Step Three

Select from this window, the photos you want you upload, (hold the ctrl key on your keyboard and click each image to select multiple photos.)

Click OK and you should see your image upload:

Step Five

OK we need the bottom link under each photo for this forum. If you want to show the photos to your friends on an instant messenger or in an email, use the second link down.
But for now, we need this one:

Image

Click on that and it should automatically copy it. If it doesn't though, just right click on it, then click copy.

Step Six

Open your new post and right click in the text box. Click "paste".

Image

Then that's that! Just click submit on your post and they will appear as if by magic. 8) I hope this helps someone!
