Heard back from the shelter. Was told all dogs at their facility should be considered urgent though since they will be closed for the holidays the two should be all right through next week. There is no pull fee, dogs can be vetted for $75 ( includes spay/ neutering and shots.)..They will hold with a rescue commitment..There is boarding available at a nearby vets office ..Kona has been there since the 19th and gets along fine with other dogs..Someone was coming to look at Kona today to possibly adopt :D

Updating Kona to "rescued" ~ in case anyone was interested in her, here is her new listing with the "Friends of" group. I couldn't find out for sure if they are a foster-based rescue, but presume she is safe unless anyone knows otherwise: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/21860657

After hearing indirectly (through Aussie rescue) that Kona may still be in need of help, I dropped a message to the group she's currently listed with, Montgomery County Friends of the Shelter, to ask about her status. I shared a link to this thread and said I'd be happy to update it with more information about her--or that we would welcome a representative of that group telling us more. :)

I heard back from Jennifer with Montgomery County Friends of the Shelter, and she was kind enough to let me know that beautiful Kona has potential adopters coming to meet her tomorrow. :D Jennifer says the potential adopters are familiar with herding breeds, so let's all hope the meet-and-greet is a success so that Kona can move into her own home soon.

If Kona ends up still needing help, Jennifer will let me know so we can continue networking her out among BC and Aussie folks.

Re: Gorgeous Kona Clarksville TN --Returned--

New postby ajones on Thu Feb 16, 2012 11:09 pm

Alas, I heard tonight that beautiful Kona's adoption didn't work out, so she is again looking for a rescue. Here is the update from Jennifer with Montgomery County Friends of the Shelter:
She was adopted recently and then returned this week. Her adopters we extremely upset as they were in love with her but couldn't give her what she needs to be a balanced dog. Kona nipped at their children (ages 3, 6 and 8 ) and ran up to them and barked at them becoming over bearing. She also herded their dog and was food aggressive. She is scared of so many things and sometimes has submissive urination.

I know that some of these behavior issues are fairly common with herding breeds but our organization lacks the skills to work with her and give her what she needs. We can't find a foster that is willing to take her on and our kennels, as nice as they are, are no placed for a herder. I can say that she has come out of her shell while she was in a home and is no longer terrified of going outside at our facility.

It sounds like the group may be able to offer some transport assistance to get Kona headed to a BC rescue. I would be happy to put people in touch with Jennifer, or the link Molly posted above (Kona's "adopted" PF listing) allows for easy emailing of the group.

FYI, I know back when Kona was first available Jennifer and West TN BCR had been in touch, but the rescue then had a dog returned unexpectedly and was unable to take Kona after all. I don't know if Jennifer has contacted any rescues yet this time around.

ETA: To cover the bases, I forwarded a link to this thread to East TN and to West TN, just in case Jennifer hadn't contacted them yet.

Are they going to relist her, or just try for a rescue transfer? This topic is a little tangled...probably best to post a fresh one with her current need.
