Poor baby. Nuka was almost that bad last spring/summer. Never know it now. I hope he finds a rescuer or adopter soon that can help him.

I have the means to pull this boy, and get him diagnosed and temp foster while being treated, but need rescue commitment for when he's all better and gorgeous. Please LMK if interested. Thanks.

I was able to reach an officer at animal control. She said he came in stray, in his current condition. Stray hold ended yesterday. Looks to be senior (which to me suggests thyroid condition causing his hair loss), might have the beginning of cataracts. She was thrilled I called about him, says he is the sweetest thing but is currently in isolation because they don't know what his skin complication is. Which also means they won't put him with other dogs for testing, but he's non-reactive to the dog across from him. Rachael's volunteer said he's energetic, but he must have been just that happy to see someone, because AC said he's laid back. Asked point blank if he'd still be available on Saturday (the earliest I personally can go to see him); she said yes, so long as he's not adopted or rescued. So, he's not on tomorrow's list.

I can't count the number of times she called him a sweetie. I know "senior" makes him that much harder to find rescue for. But I'm still up for it.

I had sent Molly an email asking about an evaluation. I was thinking, with her great offer of a temp foster, and getting him back on his feet, the least I could do would be to help sponsor him.

Now that we think he's a senior. I'm all for getting him all the help we can! :D

Okay, he's got two rescue options when he's all good, so I'm marking him "pending" and will update when he's out (can't go until Saturday; could get pulled/adopted prior to that). Thank you! :)

Ben is outta the shelter! His temp foster was as impatient as I was, and picked him up. He's already been to the vet, no observed mange but he's getting Revolution (to kill anything that crawls), fish oil, raw diet, and antibiotic boost. He is indeed an oldie, with creaky joints and worn down, uncared-for teeth, one fatty lipoma, and the start of cataracts. Yet, he is in excellent spirits and has good energy. He is a lover boy and making friends with everyone he meets. Loves to talk; does not love to enter a crate. His bloodwork results (including HW test) are due in tomorrow.

To those kind souls who offered financial support, so far he's covered. Based on the bloodwork results, will get with you on possible future needs.

Ben's bloodwork is back. He is HW NEGATIVE! And all his other numbers are great, but his thyroid IS at the mimimum of the "normal" range, so he begins the fun of finding the right dosage. When Ginger had low thyroid, I was able to find chewable soloxine thru veterinary suppliers MUCH cheaper than what the vet's office was selling, so this shouldn't hold him back at all.

He was the darling of the vet's office, and the grooming salon (where he enjoyed an oatmeal bath). He walk happily through the waiting dogs, wagging his tail and greeting them, so "dog friendly" can go on his long list of positive attributes.

I bet he'd enjoy the Florida sun on his bones. I'll check with the others who offered safe harbor, and be in touch :)
