On my way to the shelter this evening, I took a route that I normally don't take. I was driving along and noticed a black and white dog standing on a porch. As I drove along, I looked around the property and noticed an outdoor kennel FULL of black and white dogs and puppies. I couldn't capture every detail as I was still driving, but I was horrified by what I saw.
When I got to the shelter, I spoke to the President and Vice President of the Shelter Board of Directors and they decided to go to the property this evening.
There are three adult dogs and a litter of 5-6 month old Border Collie puppies (one male and four females) living in muddy filth. They had no water, a plastic barrel for shelter, no straw and little food. The puppies are about 5 months old and have been de-wormed but have had no vetting. The adults are all covered in mud and are just laying in the mud and water. The mother lives on site and is a Border Collie - the father is a relatives Border Collie and does not live on site. All dogs were friendly and desperately reaching out for attention.
Our tiny shelter is overflowing with big sweet dogs that we are having trouble moving - we MUST get these puppies out of the awful environment and into a loving and safe one but we don't have a place to put them...
We are searching for Rescue for the litter of puppies (the family has agreed to surrender them to us) and we are going to help this family spay and neuter the adults. A Rescue would be wonderful for the adults too, but for now, the babies are priority.
