Why does our Border Collie like to be sprayed with the hose? She chases and attacks the water with her mouth wide open! This has become her favorite outdoor game. Is it safe for her?
Honestly... because she is a Border Collie. They all have their little quirks and this is just one of them. I would guesstimate that about 25 percent of Border Collies do this. It is a great form of exercise and a way to keep them cool in the hot summer months. It is safe for her as long as you don't overdo it. Many of the dogs swallow a lot of water when they do this activity, oftentimes barfing it up when their stomachs get too full, but it doesn't seems to cause them much discomfort or problem - and they certainly don't slow down one bit or stop doing it. It just gives you another insight into the crazy Border Collie personality. Just step back and enjoy watching them.
